Aquilifer's principal, Dave Shields, graduated with a first-class
degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from York University in
Toronto in 1976. First class is a designation used by York to indicate
an A average. As luck would have it, Dave was not to find work
in the computer field, and ended up working in Industrial
Engineering and Production Management positions with companies such
as Sonoco, Canadian Comfort Insulation, K&K Machines, and TRW. In
1982, while at TRW, Dave bought his first computer, an Atari 800
with a disc drive. Shortly thereafter, he founded Zoez
Software. Zoez's purpose was to write games and custom
software for small businesses. Although successful in software
development, his customers' appeals for affordable hardware and
peripherals dragged Zoez into selling computer hardware and
commercial software. For a while he sold computers and related products for a competitor in Brantford until, in 1997, he took a Microsoft Certified course in Networking with Microsoft NT Server. The last part of the course was a week on the Internet and creating web sites. That single week inspired Dave to become a web designer. In early 1998 he founded Aquilifer to create web sites full time. He has been developing web sites for clients ever since. Since 1998, the Internet has changed radically and Dave has been challenged and busy adapting to and mastering all the new technologies. He is still keeping up. |
